Second report in April of man exposing himself to OPRF student walking to school, police say

On April 8, an Oak Park and River Forest High School student took a photo of this car, saying the driver exposed and fondled himself in front of her. Police believe the same man committed a similar lewd act in front of another student April 24.

For the second time this month, an Oak Park and River Forest High School student has reported that a man driving a dark-colored car exposed and fondled himself in front of them before school.

According to a letter sent out by OPRF spokeswoman Karin Sullivan, a student walking in the 300 block of North Scoville Avenue Wednesday morning told police a man driving a black Toyota Camry with tinted windows and a temporary license plate pulled up, rolled down his window and began fondling himself.

According to Oak Park police Commander John Moran, the incident took place at about 7:45 a.m. as the student was walking to school.

Earlier this month, on the morning of April 8, a female OPRF student reported a similar incident while walking to school near the intersection of Scoville and Erie avenues. In that incident, the student told police a man approached her in a car, rolled down his window and began fondling himself.

That student was able to take a photo of the car with her cellphone, and described the car as being a black Toyota Camry with tinted windows and a temporary license plate.

When asked if police believe the same suspect was involved in both incidents, Moran said police were treating them as related.

“[Today’s incident] absolutely matches the description of the same car, for sure,” Moran said.

According to Sullivan, both Oak Park and Chicago police are working together to monitor the area in an attempt to find the man. Oak Park police have also stepped up enforcement around the OPRF campus, Sullivan said.
