Norridge police rule out foul play in Canfield Avenue death

Norridge police ruled out foul play in a death Monday on the 4400 block of North Canfield Avenue.

Norridge police have ruled out foul play and suspicious circumstances as the causes of death of a 54-year-old man who was found unconscious Monday in the backyard of his home on the 4400 block of North Canfield Avenue.

Douglas Berry’s death was due to other contributing medical factors and was unrelated to the initial call that took place at 2:38 p.m. that day, said Zachary Zage, detective corporal with the Norridge Police Department.

The department is still awaiting a Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office report that will provide the official cause of death, Zage said. As of Tuesday afternoon an autopsy was still pending, according to the medical examiner’s office.

The investigation into began when police, in responding to a domestic situation, found Berry in the backyard. Officer began CPR and called for paramedics, but efforts to revive him were unsuccessful. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:22 p.m., Zage said.
