Shout Out: Wendy Singer, director of education at Illinois Holocaust Museum

Wendy Singer

Wendy Singer, 42, of Skokie is director of education for the Illinois Holocaust Museum. She lives in Skokie with her husband and two daughters. She started her new job in May.

Q: What excites you about your new job?

A: I feel honored to be able to do this. It’s a rare opportunity to do extremely meaningful work in this political climate. Also, I get to work with Holocaust survivors. In five to 10 years that generation will be gone.

Q: What does your role entail?

A: The job is really leading the charge on the museum’s education initiative: working with the people who manage the field trips, docents, law enforcement training.

Q: Where did you grow up?

A: Pittsburgh, Penn.

Q: How did you end up in the Midwest?

A: I went to undergrad at Indiana University Bloomington and wanted an adventure post-graduation. So I moved to Chicago with some friends and never left.

Q: What is your favorite restaurant?

A: Poochie’s. It’s the best hot dog in town, has great history and my kids love it.

A: “The Goonies.” That’s my all-time favorite.

Q: What is the best part of spring?

A: Everything is fresh and people come out of the woodwork. You get to see you neighbors.

A: I’m an amateur genealogist and I love to cook.
