Speak Out: Mexico deserves high tariffs, roundabout a bad idea for U.S. 20, no one explaining how new tax would work

Speak Out commenters say they're opposed to the Elgin City Council changing rules that would allow recreational vehicles park in residential driveways.driveway for the home of Crystal Winclechter and Rondee Kallas, Friday, June 5. 2015.

Driving high: About a year ago, we were stopped at a light when a car pulled up next to us. The window was down enough for us to smell the strong smoke of marijuana. Both people in the front seat were obviously smoking away. This was with pot being illegal. Now that recreational pot has been legalized, what do you think our roads will look like?

Smuggling nuclear weapons: I got a question for all you socialist Democrats who are willing to let this country have open borders and let anyone in. Do you ever realize how many of them may have nuclear weapon parts strapped on their bodies to later assemble a huge weapon? Never think about stuff like that, do ya?

Quick change for pot: How come no one has ever answered the question how marijuana went to a big no-no and illegal to it being legal and everyone being able to puff on it. Also, these people who smoke marijuana get all upset about the laws. It’s like a god to them, and they say it’s not like alcohol. If you have people running around smoking marijuana and others drinking alcohol, you’ll have a lot of people getting hurt.

Income tax concerns: Why is it whenever you see an article about this new (income) tax the Illinois governor is trying to push, you never see it compared to what we are paying now with what we would pay with the new tax? How about comparing the two in your article? Doesn’t that seem logical?

RVs wrong for neighborhoods: This is about Elgin maybe allowing boats or RVs of a certain size in driveways. I say no. You already have a problem with too many cars on the street. It’s going to create more problems. A friend of mine lives out in Hoffman Estates, where there’s a huge boat parked in the street near him. I asked him why that boat was in the street. He said they allow it. It’s worse there than in Elgin. Look at Schaumburg. They don’t allow anything overnight. It looks like a much cleaner community that way.

Mexico deserves stiff tariff: So far Mexico has been rubbing our nose in it, allowing the caravan passage to defy President Trump. Severe tariffs are a good penalty. There’s nothing coming out of Mexico that we can’t do without. Trump needs to stick it to them, and stick with it.

Route 20 roundabout: I’ve got a comment about the proposed roundabout in Pingree Grove. I know it’s an odd curve, but it’s ridiculous to talk about putting in a roundabout. All the traffic on Route 20 is going to have to slow down to 10 mph to go around that thing, and you’ll still have the same problem. People will keep trying to get in front of you and so forth. With the 700 or 800 homes expected to go up there, it’s going to be a nightmare.
