Speak Out: Lightfoot, vehicle repairs

A Speak Out commenter gives a view about Mayor Lori Lightfoot. Lightfoot, right, takes her oath from U.S. District Court Magistrate Judge Susan E. Cox, left as her spouse Amy Eshleman, second left, and her daughter Vivian look during her inauguration ceremony May 20, 2019.

A lot of us are elated after reading in the Daily Southtown how new Mayor Lori Lightfoot is appointing several new chairmen to lead important committees. Hopefully, she's a President Donald Trump Democrat— one who is thinking of people first, not party, and one who wants to drain the Chicago swamp of the good ol' boys reign of tax and spend. The article said it rankled and really upset the old guard, which is a nice way of saying the Chicago Machine. If she succeeds, she could be Chicago's mayor for a long time.

Since Gov. J.B. Pritzker is talking about people voting on a proposed new tax plan, maybe they should consider adding term limits and pension reform to the ballot.

I am a math dummy but it seems excessive that Oak Forest supposedly agreed to pay $105 per hour to Mokena to get oil changes and vehicle repairs. To me, this just proves that government at all levels has no regard for taxpayer money and how to utilize and save funds. After all, it's not as though every municipal vehicle needs repairs or oil changes every time they are called on.
