Southtowners: Student from Worth recognized by Illinois Geographical Society, more

Worth resident Jenna Staszewski, a student at Moraine Valley Community College, was one of just four students to receive the Outstanding Community College Student Award from the Illinois Geographical Society.

Geography instructor Dawn Wrobel nominated her.

Staszewski plans to graduate in May 2020 and transfer to Colorado State University to study zoology.

Crete-Monee alums graduate from basic training

U.S. Air Force National Guard Airman Amari R. Burton and U.S. Air Force Airman Shawn D. Yarborough graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Tx.

The airmen completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills.

Burton and Yarborough are 2018 graduates of Crete-Monee High School.

Beverly’s Schaffer selected as De La Salle’s May Meteor of the Month

De La Salle sophomore Sydni Schaffer of Beverly was chosen as the Meteor of the Month of May.

Nominations for this award are received from faculty and staff highlighting students who are motivated and enthusiastic about the school’s mission inside and outside of the classroom.
