New Lenox man charged with attempted criminal sexual assault, authorities say

A New Lenox man faces felony charges after he allegedly attempted to sexually assault a woman on Old Plank Trail in Frankfort, authorities said.

Anthony M. Carbone, 17, is charged with attempted criminal sexual assault and two counts of aggravated battery. Carbone appeared before a Will County judge Monday where bond was set at $150,000, his attorney Jeff Tomczak said.

The 37-year-old Frankfort woman was allegedly attacked while on the trail near Elsner Road about 7 a.m. Sunday, according to Frankfort police. Her alleged attacker pushed her to the ground and the woman asked what he was doing, Frankfort deputy police chief Kevin Keegan said. The man, who the woman later identified as Carbone, became startled and fled west on the trail, Keegan said.

Police apprehended Carbone on the trail near Wolf Road shortly after the alleged incident, Keegan said.

During an investigation, police determined that the alleged attempted attack was sexually motivated, Keegan said. He declined to give additional details.

Tomczak said he was uncertain when his client might bond out of jail, adding Carbone’s parents were working on securing funds for bond Monday afternoon.

Carbone is scheduled to appear before a Will County judge again July 2.
