A 42-year-old St. Charles man has been charged with felony home invasion and sexual assault after he broke into a home, authorities announced Sunday.
Jason Carter was arrested after police responded to a report of a sexual assault shortly before 2 a.m. Friday in the 300 block of Illinois Street in St. Charles.
St. Charles police encountered the suspect outside of the victim's home, according to a news release.
Carter allegedly sexually assaulted the victim, who was asleep on a coach.
Police found Carter in front of the residence. He was identified as the offender on the scene by the victim, according to authorities.
The Kane County State's Attorney's Office authorized charges of home invasion, a Class X felony, and criminal sexual assault, a Class 1 felony.
Police believe this to be an "isolated incident involving an acquaintance of the victim."
However, residents are reminded to lock their doors at night or when they are away, police said.
