The Blackhawks rounded out Jeremy Colliton’s coaching staff Tuesday by hiring Marc Crawford as an assistant, providing the 34-year-old Colliton a veteran Stanley Cup-winning coach to go along with younger assistants Sheldon Brookbank and Tomas Mitell.
Crawford, 58, won the Cup with the Avalanche in 1996 and has 18 years of head coaching experience with a record of 556-431-182.
In addition to the Avalanche, Crawford has served as head coach with the Canucks, Kings, Stars and most recently for the Senators, where he was interim head coach for the final 18 games of this season.
Brookbank joined Colliton’s staff midway through last season while Mitell — a former Colliton assistant in Sweden — was added last month. Both are 38 and in their first jobs as NHL assistants.
Crawford’s son, Dylan, is an assistant video coach with the Hawks. Goaltending coach Jimmy Waite and video coach Matt Meacham also will return to the Hawks next season.
