Blackhawks goalie and racing enthusiast Corey Crawford has been selected to drive the pace car before this Saturday’s IndyCar Grand Prix at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The race will be televised on NBC-5 beginning at 2 p.m.
“I’m honored to have been selected to drive this year’s pace car at a place as famous as the Brickyard,” Crawford said in a press release. “Indianapolis is an incredibly passionate sports city, and I couldn’t be more excited to represent the Blackhawks and see their love for IndyCar racing in person.”
Earlier this year, Crawford completed the restoration of a 1970 Chevy Chevelle and donated it to a charity raffle.
Crawford suffered a groin injury in the penultimate game of the season but has begun offseason workouts and is expected to be the Hawks’ starting goalie next season. He has one year remaining on his contract.
