Cicero police were investigating what authorities said was the stabbing death early Friday of a man and the death of a woman who hanged herself in a murder-suicide.
Leonardo Vargas, 47, died of a stab wound to the chest in a homicide, while Janette Ramirez, 41, died of asphyxiation from hanging in a suicide, after they were both found at a home in the 1400 block of South Central Avenue in Cicero, the Cook County medical examiner’s office determined following autopsies Friday.
Vargas was pronounced dead at 12:20 a.m. Friday, while Ramirez was pronounced dead at 12:24 a.m., according to the medical examiner’s office. They both were pronounced dead at the scene, according to a police news release. Vargas lived on the same block where he was killed and Ramirez lived in the 1900 block of South 57th Avenue in Cicero, about a half-mile away, according to the medical examiner.
The deaths were believed to be a murder-suicide and were being investigated by Cicero detectives, according to the release, which gave no information on Vargas and Ramirez’s relationship or when police initially were called to the scene.
